Week of 1/20/20 Criminal Felony Convictions:

A criminal defendant has to have been sentenced before he or she is considered “convicted” of a criminal offense in the State of Ohio.  Below are the felony convictions that took place in the Wayne County Common Pleas Court for 1/20/2020 to 1/27/2020:

1/21/2020 - Oberlin Houghtlen, 41-year-old male from Mount Sterling - Case No. 2019 CRC-I 000255     Convicted of Passing Bad Checks, F4, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2913.11(B).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. 1/22/2020 - Robert Swan, 52 year old male from AKRON - Case No. 2018 CRC-I 000769     Convicted of Theft, F5, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2913.02(A)(1).  Sentenced by Judge Corey E. Spitler to: a term of incarceration of 1 year.  Additionally, the following conditions were imposed: Pay Restitution: $6358.42.

1/22/2020 - Brent Shields, 22-year-old male from Orrville - Case No. 2019 CRC-I 000397     Convicted of Petty Theft, M1, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2913.02(A)(1).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to: a term of incarceration of 180 days.  The judge ordered: 180 days and 30 days’ c/c and waived court costs.

1/22/2020 - Joseph Sampsel, 36-year-old male from Big Prairie - Case No. 2019 CRC-I 000336 - Probation Violation Sentence     Convicted of Aggravated Possession of Drugs, F5, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2925.11(A).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to the following conditions: Community control continued.  Additionally, the following conditions were imposed: Complete Program at Community Based Correctional Facility (4 - 6 months): SRCCC.

1/22/2020 - Joseph Perry Sampsel, 35-year-old male from Wooster - Case No. 2018 CRC-I 000722 - Probation Violation Sentence     Convicted of Petty Theft, M1, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2913.02(A)(1).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to the following conditions: Community control continued.  Additionally, the following conditions were imposed: Complete Program at Community Based Correctional Facility (4 - 6 months): SRCCC.

1/22/2020 - Judith Nichols, 28-year-old female from Wooster - Case No. 2019 CRC-I 000106 - Probation Violation Sentence     Convicted of Possession of Heroin, F5, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2925.11(A).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to: a term of incarceration of 6 months.  The judge ordered: Credit for 73 days’ jail time served.
