Week of 4/13/20 Criminal Felony Convictions:

A criminal defendant has to have been sentenced before he or she is considered “convicted” of a criminal offense in the State of Ohio.  Below are the felony convictions that took place in the Wayne County Common Pleas Court for 4/13/2020 to 4/20/2020:

4/15/2020 - Damon Cooper, 25-year-old male from Apple Creek - Case No. 2019 CRC-I 000483     Convicted of Tampering With Evidence, F3, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2921.12(A)(1) and 2 additional counts.  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to: a term of incarceration of 3 years, Community Control sanctions in the amount of 2 years and Post Release Control in the amount of 3 years.  The judge ordered: letter of apology to Samantha Spence.  Additionally the following conditions were imposed: Pay Court Costs / Probation Fees; Standard Terms: Obey All Laws & Probation Rules, Follow Directions of Probation Officer; Perform Community Service: 80 Hours; Pay Restitution: $500.00 to Samantha Spence.; Random Drug Testing; Alcohol / Drug / Mental Health Counseling as Directed by Probation Department; Intensive Supervision Program; Forfeiture of Armscor 45 Auto semi-automatic pistol, model M1911A1-FS as agreed to by Cooper and his attorney.; PRC Notification Given; Participate in Cognitive Behavioral Group.

4/15/2020 - James M. Unangst, II, 32 year old male from Wooster - Case No. 2020 CRC-I 000091     Convicted of Possessing Drug Abuse Instruments, M1, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2925.12(A).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to: Community Control sanctions in the amount of 2 years.  Additionally, the following conditions were imposed: Standard Terms: Obey All Laws & Probation Rules, Follow Directions of Probation Officer; Perform Community Service: 60 Hours; Random Drug Testing; Alcohol / Drug / Mental Health Counseling as Directed by Probation Department; Intensive Supervision Program; Participate in Cognitive Behavioral Group.

4/15/2020 - James Unangst, II, 32-year-old male from Wooster - Case No. 2020 CRC-I 000089     Convicted of Aggravated Possession of Drugs, F5, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2925.11(A).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to: Community Control sanctions in the amount of 2 years.  Additionally the following conditions were imposed: Perform Community Service: 60 Hours; Random Drug Testing; Alcohol / Drug / Mental Health Counseling as Directed by Probation Department; Intensive Supervision Program; Participate in Cognitive Behaviorial Group.

4/15/2020 - James Unangst, 32-year-old male from Wooster - Case No. 2020 CRC-I 000154     Convicted of Attempted Aggravated Possession of Drugs, M1, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2923.02 / 2925.11(A).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to: Community Control sanctions in the amount of 2 years.  Additionally, the following conditions were imposed: Standard Terms: Obey All Laws & Probation Rules, Follow Directions of Probation Officer; Perform Community Service: 60 Hours; Random Drug Testing; Alcohol / Drug / Mental Health Counseling as Directed by Probation Department; Intensive Supervision Program; Participate in Cognitive Behavioral Group.

4/15/2020 - Derrick Comby, 30-year-old male from Canton - Case No. 2019 CRC-I 000427     Convicted of Trespass in a Habitation, F4, in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2911.12(B).  Sentenced by Judge Mark K. Wiest to the following conditions: Defendant was sentenced to 4 1/2 months PRC for this case.  Judge gave him credit for time served based on the 4 1/2 months he did.
